A heavy fog was laying over small mountains and islands, and everybody on the cruise was standing on the deck to take a look at this well known Halong Bay. Seems like the weather wanted to show us a mysterious side of Vietnam.
I bought my ticket to a cruise on Halong bay some days before in Hanoi city. There was a tourist information that was selling tours on every corner, and they had trips of every price range. I was just hoping that the cruise tour I bought was nice. The boat was not spectacular, but the trip was nice anyway. After a bus trip and an hour of waiting, we finally began our boat trip out in the well known Halong bay.
To get closer to the nature and the fishing villages, we took a kayak from the cruise to paddle around two and two. Far away from everything, people where living in floating houses and boats working with fish and shells. It was almost no one else outside and it was interesting to think about how people lived and worked here.
I stayed 1 night at this cruise in Halong Bay. We didn’t get to see the sun, but the fog changed landscape all the time and made it interesting and beautiful in their own way.
My wish was to actually be sunbathing on the deck, but that was not an option now. Instead we were eating from a buffet inside, kayaking in the day and partying by night.
You do not need to buy a ticket weeks in advance before you are coming to Vietnam. Plan some days in Hanoi city, and buy your ticket at one of the many tourist informations there. Here you can also look for a hiking trip to Sapa in the north of Vietnam.
