After snorkeling in Sri Lanka, I was so in love with the world under water that I wanted to try real diving. As a lot of other people in the world, I went to Koh Tao in Thailand to get my PADI Open Water Diver Certification. The whole island was full of divers and dive shops. It was very touristic, but it was a nice and cheap place to take the diver certification for only 9800 baht (included accommodation)/ ca 280 us dollars.
How to get there
I was coming from Bangkok. In Bangkok, I visited Lomprayah ticket office near Khaosan Road and booked everything there. Here you can book bus, ferry, get a reservation to the course at Ban’s diving resort and a place to sleep. They also pick you up when you’re coming with the ferry and drive you to the hotel.
How long time does it take?
I was taking my certification at Ban’s Diving Resort. The course was over 4 days. The first day was mainly dive theory and the second day we got to practice in the pool. The two next days was with the final test and diving in the ocean down to 18 meters under water. In total 4 dives in the ocean.
It was quite cold these days, and because of a small storm on the island, you could only see 2-5 meters ahead of you in the water. But it was still fun and I saw a lot of cool fishes.
I’m really looking forward to dive on other places in the world to!
