These trails are full of wonderful natural beauty like pristine lakes, canyons, snow capped peaks, strange rock formations, active glaciers, and even volcanoes. Maybe that’s why hiking is the most popular pastime in the U.S.
Angels Landing – Utah
As a resident of Utah, I like to talk about this trail first. First of all, the beauty of this trail lies even in its name. I don’t know if the Angels landed here, but it seems to me that this trail is beautiful enough to attract the Angels. The trail is 2.5 mile long which is suitable for short day hike. You’ll enjoy the beauty of the 1488 feet high rock formation while walking on this trail. This 2.5 mile long trail is a cut into the solid rock which was cut in 1926 to astonish you with the amazingness of the rock formation in Zion National Park.
This trail is the best choice for the mountain lovers and dare devil hikers. But, if you’re afraid of heights, then this place won’t be suitable for you. As, this is a trail cut into rock, you’ll get it very steep. But, I promise, if you can reach to the top of the Angels Landing, the spellbound view of the Zion Canyon will cease your eyes for sure. If you aren’t afraid of heights, then you should consider visiting this trail. This hike is actually much more easier than rock climbing.
Pacific Crest Trail – USA
Pacific Crest Trail is one of the longest hiking trails in the world. The length of this trail is about to 4,265 km long which spans from the southern U.S. border with Mexico to the northern U.S. border with Canada through California, Oregon, and Washington. This trail is officially designated as the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail and also widely known as the PCT.
If you like to enjoy the beauty of the desert, if you love to unfold the glaciated expanses of the Sierra Nevada, if you dare to face the beasts of deep forests then PCT will be the number 1 trail for you. Thousands of hikers enjoy this natural treasure each year. A lots of them complete each mile of this trail in a single season. But you can also hike only a few miles. For the short day hiking on this long trail, you may start from the west at the Forester Pass in the Sierra Nevada.
Paint Mines – Colorado, USA
If you love to have a look at the colorful clays and ceremonial paints of the ancient Native Americans, If you wish to have your feet on such a place which gives evidence of the human civilization as far back as 9,000 years old – Paint Mines will be one of your most favorite hiking trails.
Moreover, the natural geological countenance of this trail is overwhelmingly impressive. You may have heard the proverb about Colorado that – “It’s hard to beat Colorado’s scenery”. Display of hoodoos, caprock canyons, sparkling alpine lakes and other natural stunning scenery – these are really very amazing which make hundreds of hikers bewitched each month.
Another note on this trail for the foreigner is that to experience the best of this hiking spot you should consider coming here between March to October because, during this period, the trail authority offers a lot of fun activities including barefooted hiking, gentle exercise, starry nights, educational exploration etc to the hikers. This beautiful trail is only 3.6 miles long and there are several ways to get here. From the Yoder Road/Calhan Highway, turn east/left on Paint Mines Road to reach the trail. Don’t forget to park your car in the signed parking area on the left.
Mount Healy Overlook Trek – Alaska, USA
Mount Healy Overlook Trek is a 4.5 miles long hiking trail which is too beautiful to ignore. This is one of Alaska’s most popular walk-up mountains. Patches of wildflowers, bushes of wild blueberries, views of dark green mountains and the scenery of the thick forests, all these features have made this trail so beautiful.
To enjoy hiking on this trail, you won’t need any technical skills or trekking equipment. To make you understand the easiness of this trail, I can’t but mention that my 60 years old aunt did this hike last month. She didn’t get to the top of the mountain. But you can easily do this as none of the hardcore hikers miss this opportunity.
John Muir Trail – California, USA
Another most popular thru hiking trail is John Muir Trail. This trail is 338 km long which cuts through the Sierra Nevada mountains in California. The hikers of this long trail can enjoy the sight of Mount Whitney which is the highest peak in the United States. It is also naturally decorated with the trail of thousands of lakes, granite cliffs and canyons. You don’t have to hike all the 338 km to enjoy most of the rare beauties of this trail. Start from the Sequoia National Park to experience those beauties within few miles.
Hope these trails will attract you to go on a nice hike. Don’t worry if all of these trails are far away from your home, it can be a nice part of your holiday to explore a new place. Have fun and enjoy hiking.
